Caribbean colors, textures and faces have been a great inspiration for my photography. My work follows the seasons. In the winter my husband and I live aboard our sailboat in the tropics. Sailing our own boat gives us the freedom to travel to places far from the madding crowd. We seek out the places that still have a slower pace of life. Here time is measured in years not in minutes. The pace is both calming and rejuvenating for the soul. The Bahamian images show some of the few places still undeveloped others are ‘places left behind’. The Dominican images are slices of life showing joy, determination and curiosity.
Our sailing has taken us to the East Coast US, the Bahamas, the Northern Caribbean and Central America. In the summer we live in New Hampshire , where I have had the opportunity to photograph some of the beauty of New England.
Photography has been a part of my life since I was a child. My father worked for Polaroid thus growing up there was always a new camera or film to play with. Most of this early experience was with instant photography. This quick feedback was a wonderful learning tool.
I eventually moved on to more traditional 35 mm photography, but never forgot the benefits of instant photography. The advent of quality digital cameras has brought my work full circle. I jumped on the digital bandwagon early on and the majority of my creative work is now digital.
My photographs are in private collections and have been published in boating and tropical lifestyle magazines and guides.
